Two stories caught my eye on Digg today. I thought I’d share them with you.

How I bought a PS3!

May 8th, 2007 by paul

I am now the proud owner of a Playstation 3! Eeek!

As you may have read in an erlier post, my second Xbox 360 decided to show me the dreaded 3 red lights of death. I was not a happy person, I can tell you! Obviously, that meant that I actually had to talk to my wife during the evenings, due to the absolute lack of anything worth watching on TV! We even managed to get away for a couple of days and do some indoor skydiving (I’ll let you know how that went in a later post)!

So after finding out that we have nothing at all to talk about, we went wandering around Blackburn town centre and made our usual trip to the local Gamestation. The first thing I noticed was that the price of the console itself had been dropped to £425. Nice! Then I noticed the deals that they were doing. You know the ones, buy this and pick 2 games from a specific batch of titles. After trying to swap one of the games for Formula 1, and failing miserably, we left and went to the local Game.

They also had a deal of a PS3 and 2 games, but again, you had to choose from a specific batch of titles. So the Manager smells a sales coming on (I think it was me crapping myself on account of spending nearly £500 on a console) and pounces over like a child in a free sweet shop.

“Can I help you sir?” *bowing, grovelling*
“Certainly my good man. I would like one of your PS3s. But I don’t want any of thoses games on the list. I want Formula 1 and Resistance: Fall of Man. Can you do that for me? Huh? Eh? Can ya?”

[At this point, I may have well have dropped my pants and actually let him lick my bum hole. He must have been that desperate to actually sell one of these things!]

“Yes I can sir.” *slurp*
“Wow, that was easy. I’ll take it!” *pulls pants back up* “Yuck. Damp”.

And that was pretty much it really! I am now a fully fledges member of the Playststion 3 club. And you know what? I’m actually enjoying it! It’s taking me a little while to play an FPS with the PS3 pad, as I’m so used to the 360 one, but I’ll get their eventually!

I’m going to sign off for now, but I will be back soon with a closer look at the console, how it works and what the games are like. I may even tell you about the Blu-ray film that Gem also bought for it!

Now all I need is a High Definition telly…

PS3 is here!

March 23rd, 2007 by paul

OK, so I’m not actually bothered to be honest.

The price is too much, I don’t really want a Blu-ray player and I don’t have a HD telly (yet). But if I did get one, it will probably get used a bit more than the Wii!

Now then. I know that there will be a few of you out there who will have gotten one by now. All I want to know is, is it actually any good? How does it compare to the Xbox 360? And lastly, were you one of the lucky bastards who received a free 46″ HD telly?

Leave your comments below and I shall read with glee!

Oh, and while you’re at it, if you’ve read this here blog, but never posted a comment before now (and we know there’s a few of you!), let us know where you found out about us!

How to sell a console?

March 20th, 2007 by Duncan Simpson

This made me laugh the other night so I just had to share it with you all.

Whilst watching TV together with the lady last night, the current PS3 advert came on, showing off Motorstorm on the PS3.  ‘Representative of in-game graphics’ the screen proclaimed.  “No it isn’t,” she said, after having watched me play the demo pod in New Yorks’ Toys R Us store for a little too long, “it looks nothing like as smooth!”

Nice one Sony, you can’t even fool my wife who by her own admission is hardly a ‘gamer’!

Game Over for Sony?

December 1st, 2006 by Phil Collins

Reports on gameindustry.biz today suggest Sony is about to pull out of the games industry with the Playstation three being the last piece of gaming hardware to be seen from the electronic giants.

Thing is… do we care? Well yes, I guess we do. We shall miss lots of things. Over-hyped cell calculations for one. Wonderful looking 3D demos at E3 (RIP!) that actually mean nothing at all for another.

But hang on, are we missing something. Did the very first Playstation not kick start a floundering industry. Did the chunky grey box not start the home gaming revolution we experience today? If it was not for Sony would we be playing on 256-bit super machines like the Sega Universe or the Nintento Super-Super-System.

Well yes, Sony did do a lot for the industry. In fact I would go as far as to say for most people in this world Sony started the games industry. (Not historically true but not everyone on this planet are geeks who know the history of modern day gaming)
So how did Sony go from the immortal well-doers of which boasts the most loyal customers (Sony fanboys anyone?) to actually considering leaving? One word. One company. One huge pot of cash. One large campus somewhere near Redmond. Oh, and the fact that they are a year late to the current generation. Maybe they actually sense the fact that this time round they’re too late and the industry doesn’t actually care all that much about the PS3.

If it is true then the only company to survive in the hardware market from the start of the gaming revolution is Nintendo. Power to the plumber!

Guitar Hero 2

November 27th, 2006 by paul

keyart(1).jpgLast week saw the release of Guitar Hero 2 on the PS2. And by God, it’s an enjoyable game! OK, I’m a bit biased as I also have the original game and that also did rock. Literally.

If you don’t know what it is the firstly, where the hell have you been?! Secondly, see firstly!

Coming with a guitar-shaped controller, you’re well placed to start rocking out as soon as you’ve loaded the game up. Obviously, you start on the easy setting and make your way up from there, all the way up to expert, where you’ll soon see how well you can play the “axe”.

The play is basically like Dance Dance something or other, but you use your fingers instead of your feet. Well, you could try and use your feet, but you may look a bit wierd. Really. Easy is quite…umm…easy. You’ll be playing the tracks using only the first 3 buttons. Even on easy, the more songs you unlock, the harder they’ll start getting. You can guess what happens when you go for the medium, hard and expert settings!

Graphically, it’s OK. Nothing great but it does the job. To be honest, you’ll be so busy looking at what keys you’ll be pressing that you’ll not notice what’s going on in the background! I don’t think anybody will ever be that good to be able to know all the notes off by heart and watch what’s going on in the background. Although I would love to be proved wrong!

Currently, I’m not doing too bad on Hard difficulty, but the solo’s are starting to get to me a little. God help me when I get to expert difficulty!

Multiplayer is also a lot of fun. Almost worth going out to buy a second controller just for it. My brother, sister, her boyfriend and myself had a cracking time and spent all night on it. Very good fun indeed. This game is perfect for parties!

Fave track is Hangar 18 by Megadeth but there are tracks on there for all taste. Even a bit of Rythm & Blues, and for the real oldies, the tune used for the Top Gear soundtrack!

Anyway, long story short, I recomend that you go out and buy this. Now. Either for playing with yourself (no sniggering back there) or with a group (stop it)!

Hop along to www.guitarherogame.com for a look at what all the fuss is about. The game is out in all good, and rather crap game shops!
