Oh jez, it’s April already!

April 3rd, 2007 by Duncan Simpson

This means one of two things:

  • This year is going way too quickly, although probably quicker for Paul and Phil, them already being 30!
  • This very blog will be six months old very soon.

It’s worth mentioning that we’re celebrating our six month of wittering because when we started this thing off, lets just say expectations of anybody outside our friends and colleagues reading it were minimal.

However, we have been very pleasently surprised by the fact that we are getting some ridiculous hits a month, and over 100 unique visitors a day. All of that with just word of mouth, a few forum sigs placed here and there, and the odd lucky/unlucky search engine user who came across us by accident. Seriously, there were some weird search strings that Google dropped against our site.

I’ll have to get Phil to post some up below if he gets chance.

Therefore, on behalf of The Good, The Bald and The Stupid, we just wanted to thank you guys and gals, whoever you are, for visiting, and making us feel like someone might actually give a damn about our musings. But if you don’t, just pretend you do, we all have fragile egos!

Looking forward, we’re not completely sure what the next six months holds, although there is a good chance we may have fresh writing blood soon, if we can persuade the intended target that is.

It’d be nice to try the GBS Live Night again, and it’d be even better if more people actually turned up (but we’re still grateful to those who did!). Whenever we do get on Live, generally it’s to have a laugh and a natter, rather than any truely serious competition, with the exception of the last few days when we generally seem to be obesessed with orb hunting on Crackdown. Still!!

Yet we could be persuaded to do a tournament or league style thing if enough of you wanted one. Did you get the hint?

On that note, if there is anything that you would like us to do or cover in our articles, any features you’d like to see, then let us know. Although we can’t promise to be able to do everything you may come up with, it’d fun to hear your ideas to see if they tie up with our own.

Thanks again for visiting, and making GBS something out of nothing! Just don’t forget to come back again!

PS. I’m so gonna get hammered for the ‘30′ comment! :D

We’re two months old!!

January 25th, 2007 by Duncan Simpson

Already two months have flown by after the first post from our very own Father Fil appeared on 23rd November 2006.  Since then a number of things have changed, and we’ve all got on our relative high horses about something or other.  Ain’t free speech great!

We’ve also seen the number of people visiting this blog, and importantly, coming back, rise significantly, regularly hitting the 150 mark.  Ok it’s a small number in comparison to other blogs/sites but considering we’ve really done bugger all promotion apart from a few friends and colleagues being kind enough to drop our URL on their own site, we’re quite proud of that.

Therefore, we’d all like to say a big thank you to all of you that have taken the time to read our collective mutterings.  Hopefully you’ve enjoyed it and will keep coming back; and feel free to pass on our blog address to anyone who you think might be interested.  The more the merrier as the saying goes.

Looking to the short term future of GBS, there are a couple of things we currently have in the pipeline to expand the experience for everyone, us included.  They may be ideas that have been done before, in fact the three of us have done both before, but we’re looking to bring a quite unique experience to you all.

Keep an eye out for announcements in the near future on these projects and more, as the GBS universe expands.

Today the internet; tomorrow the World!

Although we’d settle for a few more readers at the moment.

I’m comin’ up so we better get this blog started!

November 27th, 2006 by Duncan Simpson

Ok, lame Pink-lyrics-gag aside, it’s time I kicked my own contributions to this site kicked off.

Firstly, I’d like to say welcome along to all those people who have taken the time to come along and visit our little ole blog. Hey it’s only taken us, what, a year to get even this far, but at least we’re here!

Just how did we get here you may ask? You didn’t? Well screw you, I’m gonna tell you anyway! All you have to do is skip to the next section if you know it all.

A long time ago, in a galaxy……..wait.

Once upon……………

It all started about three years ago for me, when I met a chap on Xbox Live. This chap worked on a website called Vagusnet.com, which was all about video games. That was Paul. He introduced me to the owner of said site, one Gareth Williams. Soon after another chap by the name of Phil joined as well. And so a legend was born!

Now read that last paragraph in the style of a childrens story teller ;)

What began was a journey into the unknown of video games journalism for me. A journey that took me through news writing, reviewing, taking on Editorial duties, running the editorial side (god that caused some headaches) not to mention presenting live TV for nearly a year! Then there’s the VN podcast which aside from live TV is probably the most fun I’ve had with a microphone whilst having my clothes on!

Then it all went a bit south sadly. Still not sure totally why, but there you go, live and learn. Although I’m very glad to say that I’m still very much in touch with those people, naturally my two co-bloggers here included.

That, bar some odd stories and chunks of history, brings us to today, and this here blog. Yet what’s even weirder is that this site was only an idea about five days ago! God bless ya Phil and your ridiculously quick coding :D

NEXT SECTION

What is this site then? In all honesty, the sub heading at the top of the page says it all. Really, there isn’t much more I could say. As you can tell the rambling bit is right!

Our main focus here is the world of gaming in all it’s weird and wonderful forms. Or at least those forms which we can afford and don’t get shouted at too much for from our respective other halves. That sounds more dodgy than it should. Moving on! (Copyright Father Fil 2006)

So sit back, relax, and enjoy the meanderings of The Good, The Bald and The Stupid!
